This Thursday was the NORD magazine launch party for FAT (Fashion Art Toronto), this begins 5 days of runway shows, fashion film and presentation, as well as a retrospective exhibition (as it is the event’s 10th anniversary), a pop-up shop and various art exhibits. The 5 day event officially takes place beginning Tuesday, at the Daniels Spectrum venue at 585 Dundas St. East. Tickets to attend a day of this event cost $40 for general admission and $30 for a student day pass. Doors open at 5:30, and allow access to the presentations until about midnight.
Every year, FAT celebrates a specific theme; this year, the theme is “#MADEINCANADA”. Each day of presentations encompasses a sub-theme that the artists will represent through their work; Tuesday being “Great Wild”, Wednesday will be “Cold North”, Thursday is “Group of Seven”, Friday being “Northern Lights” and finally, Saturday’s theme is “Global Village”. As Hai-Ha is a Canadian based company, it will be exciting to see how the Canadian fashion and art scene will translate their home roots into the visual feast that is Fashion Art Toronto week.

Style suggestions for attending FAT:
Don’t be afraid to go bold
Think of FAT as the Toronto version of the couture shows, the runway is packed with sartorially imaginative looks, so might as well pack a little bit of “umph” (We suggest headchain accessorizing for a balance between dainty and impactful style).
Embrace the theme
It IS “#MADEINCANADA” after all, so look to your closet (or your local boutique) for your Canadian made goods and don your best Maple Leaf wears; by the way, Hai-Ha gear definitely counts.
Feel free to be androgynous
Not feeling like rocking an overly feminine look? Throw on an ironed tuxedo blazer and boyfriend jeans and call upon your inner masculine. But don’t forget your Franze handchain to complete the look.
If you are heading to this event, we would love to see how you work your high-fash style, and hear all about your favorite piece; whether it be a runway look, or photograph that you couldn’t stop admiring, we want to hear all about it!
